Cheehoo, habit #2, Begin with the End in Mind!! Two teams hard at work put puzzle pieces together to form a picture. Which do you think had a plan? This month, let's focus on having a plan to achieve our goals at home, school, and work!
Happy 7th birthday, buddy!! Thank you for the goodies you shared with your friends. :)
Week of 9/29/14
Thank you parents for allowing us to visit the Maui Arts and Cultural Center! We had a fantastic time learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly through the arts- visual arts, dance, and drama!
Then, she let us try to our very own. She said "happy mistakes" are okay if you're an artist! :) We drew lines with a gray pencil, traced them with a sharpie pen, used MAGIC CRAYONS to shade in the parts of our picture, and used water and a paint brush to make the colors come to life!
We used different levels and shapes to show the butterfly life cycle with our bodies. The picture on the left shows an egg and the picture on the right shows a low level caterpillar crawling on the ground.
On the left, the boys are showing how the pupa hangs upside down from a tree branch. On the right, a beautiful Kamehameha butterfly dries its wings and takes flight into the gorgeous Maui sky!
Last, was creative movement and drama class! Here, we worked in small groups to make a looooong caterpillar with spikes and a cozy chrysalis. We also showed the butterfly breaking out of the chrysalis. Do you know what "molt" means?
Our buddy turned 6 years old on Monday! :) Everyone cheered and sang him a birthday tune!
Look at her go!! Way to sharpen your saw, soccer girl! :)

Week of 9/8/14
The little scientists of E102 put on their lab coats, goggles, gloves, and boots to experiment with primary colors today.
First, we made predictions. Everyone had different ones and we tried to defend our thinking.
Next, we set up our lab with mixing sticks and colored potions.
Then....Mix-uh, Mix-uh, Mix-uh!
"I wonder what would happen if we mixed one color before the other", said student A. Student B replied, "I think it wouldn't matter, like when we add it doesn't matter which number you add first. The two parts still make the same whole".
Look at what we discovered today about primary and secondary colors!!
FA.1.1.4 Mix primary colors to form secondary colors and describe the process.
SC.1.1.2 Describe what was investigated, discovered, and what was learned to classmates using simple organizers.
